ORUBA (Organized Research Unit Business Administrators) was established in 1996–97 to bring together business managers from UC San Diego's general campus research units (ORUs) and Multicampus Research Units (MRUs) to discuss and make recommendations on issues of interest to ORUs/MRUs.

The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research acts as ORUBA’s representative and advocate to present the views and recommendations of the group to the appropriate persons and/or offices. The AVC for Research also brings relevant campus and University topics to ORUBA for discussion.
